Description
Agapanthus ‘Poppin Purple’ is a compact, free-flowering variety that produces an impressive number of deep purple-violet flower heads over a long summer season. It has a neat, tidy habit and flowers reliably year after year with very little attention. A good choice for pots and sunny borders where you want strong colour without a large, spreading plant.

Planting:
Plant in spring into well-drained soil or a free-draining compost for containers. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot for best results. In pots, make sure drainage is excellent and avoid over-potting — agapanthus flowers best when slightly snug in its container.
Watering:
Water regularly while establishing. Once settled, it is fairly drought-tolerant in the ground, though consistent moisture through summer supports better flowering. Container plants need regular watering throughout the growing season.
Feeding:
Feed in spring and again in early summer with a balanced fertiliser. In containers, feed regularly through the growing season to maintain strong growth and flowering.
Seasonal Care & Tidy-Up:
Remove spent flower stems after blooming. Leave the foliage in place until it dies back naturally, as it continues to feed the plant. A light winter mulch over the crown can be helpful in colder areas or exposed gardens.
Division (to keep plants vigorous):
Divide only when clumps become overcrowded. Agapanthus generally flowers best when left undisturbed for a few years — avoid dividing too frequently.
Pests & Problems:
Generally trouble-free. Poor drainage is the main risk, especially through winter. Slugs may target young growth in spring but rarely cause serious problems on established plants.
Design Notes:
Works well in containers on patios and terraces, or in the middle of a sunny border where the upright stems and rich purple flowers add structure and late summer colour. Pairs nicely with ornamental grasses, salvias, lavenders, and other sun-loving perennials. The compact size makes it easy to fit into smaller spaces while still delivering a strong display.
