Description

Fukinagashi is a technique used when creating bonsais that results in a very windswept look, where all the growth is shaped to one side, as if a very strong wind is blowing in that direction. It can be seen here with this Taxus baccata specimen, grown by our Production Manager Andrii, who has been with us here at the Nursery for 2 years now and counting. Using wires, he has carefully crafted this Yew tree in this Fukinagashi style, also combining it with the Shari technique of removing a section of bark from the trunk, exposing the ‘deadwood’ look beneath.

To create even further interest, the Taxus has been raised up, propped with a piece of natural stone, which has encouraged the roots to grow around it down to the soil. Finished with stone chippings and moss, this specimen really does have the character of a tree that is growing in tough, exposed mountainous conditions.
