Description

Agapanthus ‘Amourette Superb Blue’ is a compact, neat-growing variety that delivers a strong summer display without taking up too much space. The rich blue flower heads sit well above the foliage on tidy stems, giving it a clean, elegant look that suits both borders and containers. It’s a good choice if you want the structure and colour of agapanthus in a slightly smaller, more manageable form.

Planting:
Plant in spring in well-drained soil or a quality free-draining compost if growing in pots. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot for the best flowering. In containers, make sure drainage is excellent.

Watering:
Water regularly while the plant establishes. Once settled, it copes reasonably well with dry periods in the ground, but container plants will need more consistent watering through summer.

Feeding:
Feed in spring and again in early summer with a balanced fertiliser to encourage strong flowering. Potted plants will benefit from more regular feeding during the growing season.

Seasonal Care & Tidy-Up:
Remove spent flower stems after blooming. Leave the foliage in place until it dies back naturally, as this helps feed the plant for the following season. In colder gardens, a protective mulch over winter can be helpful.

Division (to keep plants vigorous):
Divide only when clumps become congested. Agapanthus generally flowers best when left undisturbed, so avoid dividing too often.

Pests & Problems:
Usually very reliable. The main risk is poor drainage, especially in winter. Slugs may damage fresh growth, but otherwise it’s a low-fuss plant.

Design Notes:
Ideal for pots, patios, and the front or middle of sunny borders. The compact habit makes it easy to work into smaller spaces while still giving that classic agapanthus look. Pairs well with grasses, salvias, and other sun-loving summer perennials.
