Description

A tough, reliable, and genuinely low maintenance ground cover shrub that earns its place in any garden — particularly in those tricky spots where little else will thrive. ‘Peter Dummer’ is a semi-evergreen St John’s Wort with cheerful yellow flowers and orange anthers from July through September, followed by attractive red-flushed conical fruits in autumn and warm red tones in the foliage as the season changes.

Bushy, rounded, and planted together it creates a low, weed-suppressing carpet of foliage and flowers that virtually looks after itself — year after year.

– Dry soils and shaded spots under large trees
– Planting near walls and in awkward corners
– Underplanting and low attention areas
– Mass planting for a low, weed-suppressing carpet effect

Growing conditions

Hypericum ‘Peter Dummer’ will thrive in most conditions — sun or shade, dry or moderately moist soil, near walls or beneath large conifer trees. One of the most adaptable and forgiving shrubs you can plant. Little to no maintenance required once established — simply let it get on with the job.

What makes this product special

Three seasons of genuine interest — flowers through summer, fruit and foliage colour through autumn, and semi-evergreen cover through winter — from a plant that asks almost nothing in return. Reliable, durable, and excellent value for areas that need coverage without constant attention.

Caragh’s Garden Notebook

Every garden has those spots that are awkward to plant — dry, shaded, beneath trees, against a wall. ‘Peter Dummer’ is the answer to most of them. It’s one of those plants that genuinely thrives on neglect, covers the ground properly, and still manages to look good through three seasons. Plant it, let it settle, and forget about it — it will do the rest.
