Description
Hosta ‘Purple Heart’ is a lush, clump-forming perennial with glossy mid-green foliage that is flushed with maroon at the base. The strong petioles that hold each leaf are deep purple to almost black in colour. In July/August, spikes of lavender purple flowers are produced which sit above the foliage. It grows to about 50cm in height and spread, but in some instances can get up to 80cm. Its a very shade-tolerant plant that will thrive under tree canopies and in north-facing gardens. This variety of Hosta can also tolerate some full sun reasonably well, providing the plant is kept sufficiently watered.
