Description

Nandina domestica ‘Blush Pink’ is a particularly flamboyant form of Heavenly Bamboo, valued for its ever-changing foliage and year-round interest. In spring, the new growth emerges in a lovely blush pink, holding its colour through summer before developing into fiery red tones for autumn and winter. As the leaves mature over the following year, they turn green again — only to be followed by another fresh flush of pink growth.

In July, this vibrant shrub also produces dainty white flowers, followed by small red berries. Compact and elegant at 1m high and 1m wide, it makes a superb specimen plant and is a lovely addition to borders, patio containers and exotic-style planting schemes.

Planting:
Plant in spring or autumn in well-drained soil. It will settle in best in a sheltered position where it can show off its foliage colour through the seasons.

Watering:
Water well after planting and during dry spells in the first season. Once established, it is fairly low maintenance.

Feeding:
A spring mulch of compost will help support healthy growth and good foliage colour.

Seasonal Care & Tidy-Up:
Little pruning is needed. Simply remove any dead or untidy stems in late winter or early spring if required.

Pests & Problems:
Generally trouble-free and easy to grow when planted in suitable conditions.

Design Notes:
A wonderful choice for adding colour and structure to borders, containers and more exotic planting schemes. It pairs beautifully with grasses, ferns, evergreen shrubs and rich foliage planting, where its shifting tones can really shine.
