Description
The Chinese yellow wood is a rare and handsome small tree native to parts of Northern China and Korea, Maackia amurensis has new leaves in spring which are a beautiful, silver-blue in colour, quite magical.
As these leaves age they darken to a cool green which last until autumn before falling.
Delightful, upright panicles of creamy-white, slightly fragrant flowers appear on the branches in midsummer, followed by fertile seeds after particularly hot summers. Established plants have striking, textured bronze-brown bark.
An unusual and lovely garden tree, slow growing and used in many countries as an important medicinal plant.
Do not use heavy fertilisers with this tree as it has the unusual ability to create its own nitrogen fixing quality.
Its not a large tree, slow growing but likes a sunnier position and doesn’t like to be sat in water, its hardy and flowers in May-June with snow white flowers
