Ilex meserveae Heckenfee

Description

Ilex Heckenfee is a form of Blue Holly with dark blue-green, glossy foliage which makes for an excellent hedging plant. It is an upright evergreen shrub that produces white flowers in early summer, followed by masses of bright red berries in the autumn and winter months. Once established it is considered very low-maintenance, as it can tolerate wind and sun exposure, and is very hardy in colder climates. It’s neat columnar form grows to a max. height of around 3-4m while maintaining a tidy width of approx. 1m. It is a female form of Blue Holly, so should be planted near a male variety such as Blue Prince to ensure cross-pollination can occur.
