Caragh Garden Notebook
We’ve found spring or early autumn planting works best, with plants spaced 60cm apart to accommodate their natural spread. While adaptable to most soils, they truly shine in well-drained, fertile ground enriched with good compost. We love pairing this red beauty with silver-leaved plants like artemisia, purple salvias for contrast, and ornamental grasses such as Stipa ‘pony tails’ for movement. For cottage garden charm, combine with cream roses and soft blue delphiniums. Regular deadheading keeps the flowers coming, and dividing established clumps every 3-4 years in spring maintains their vigour. A spring mulch of well-rotted organic matter supports the season’s abundant flowering display.
