Description
Cornus capitata is a variety of Flowering Dogwood native to the Himalayas, and so is commonly known as ‘Himalayan Evergreen Dogwood’ or ‘Himalayan Strawberry Tree’. It is an evergreen to semi-evergreen large bush/small tree with a dense, spreading habit. In late spring, small green flowers are surrounded by large, green to creamy-white bracts that slowly fade to pink as they mature, putting on a fabulous long-lasting display from May until late June/July. These flowers are later followed by unusual yellow to red fruits in the autumn. It gradually grows to heights of 8-12m, with a spread of about 8m. For best results, plant in a sheltered, sunny position that is protected from cold winds, as it is most likely to retain most if not all of its foliage during the winter months.
