Description

Pull it from the sea and put it in your garden. The Kos is a tall, ribbed amphora urn from our Atlantis Collection — hand-made with a form that speaks directly to the ancient Mediterranean, and a surface that looks as though it has been on the ocean floor for centuries. The distinctive horizontal banding runs the full height of the piece, catching the light differently at every hour of the day, while the encrusted glaze — sandy gold, warm ochre, and bleached white with darker deposits that resemble barnacle and coral — gives it a depth and authenticity that is genuinely unlike anything else.

Named for the Greek island of Kos. Looking like it was lost somewhere between there and Atlantis.

Why we love it
– A hand-thrown ribbed amphora form with roots in ancient Mediterranean pottery
– A spectacularly encrusted glaze in sandy gold, ochre, and bleached white — every piece entirely individual
– Frost resistant and suitable for flowing water features
– A genuine centrepiece — the piece the garden is arranged around, not added to it
– The Atlantis Collection — hand-made pieces that look as though the sea made them
– At 122cm, it commands attention without asking for it

What makes this product special
The ribbed banding is what makes the Kos — it gives the amphora form a rhythm and depth that a plain urn cannot achieve, catching shadow in the grooves and light on the ridges in a way that changes through the day and across the seasons. The encrusted, salt-bleached glaze does the rest, giving the piece a story that goes beyond any garden and back to the sea it appears to have come from. Frost resistant, water feature ready, and entirely hand-made — no two pieces carry quite the same patina, which means the one you choose is the only one exactly like it.

Caragh’s Garden Notebook
The Kos is the kind of piece that deserves a single, confident planting decision rather than several hesitant ones. A tall, sculptural olive underplanted with trailing rosemary; a single bold phormium whose strappy leaves echo the vertical lines of the ribbing; or nothing at all — filled with water and set running as a fountain, the encrusted surface and the sound of water work together in a way that needs no plant to complete it. Named for a Greek island, shaped like ancient cargo, and photographed on a shingle beach where it looked entirely at home — give it a position worthy of that story.?
