Description
There are planters that hold plants, and there are planters that hold the light. The Aluminium Gold Atlas belongs emphatically in the second category. Finished in a hand-applied metallic coating of copper, bronze, and gold flakes, no two planters are identical — each one catches the light differently, shifts through the day, and rewards the eye in a way that no machine-applied finish ever could.
The Gold Atlas is part of our vintage metallic collection — a range inspired by the warmth and character of vintage metal, reinterpreted for the contemporary garden. The result is a planter that feels genuinely extraordinary: rich, textural, and alive with reflected light in a way that photographs cannot fully capture.
Beneath the finish, the engineering is equally impressive. Constructed from 3mm aluminium as standard with 4–5mm available for larger or more demanding applications — the Atlas is light enough to move, strong enough to last, and naturally resistant to corrosion in all outdoor conditions. The upper rim is turned back twice for a clean, substantial edge, and integrated feet raise the base 15mm off the ground to promote drainage and protect the surface beneath.
Round in form. Singular in character.

Planting: The round Atlas form suits a wide range of planting styles from clipped box spheres and architectural topiary to ornamental grasses, bamboos, and specimen trees. Use a quality loam-based compost and ensure the drainage holes remain clear. The integrated feet naturally assist drainage and air circulation at the base.
Material: Aluminium is among the finest materials for premium outdoor planters genuinely lightweight despite its strength, completely corrosion-resistant, and unfazed by the full range of Irish weather conditions. Unlike steel, it will not rust. Unlike fibreglass, it has a natural rigidity and substance that feels exceptional to the touch.
The Finish: The hand-applied metallic coating is what makes the Gold Atlas truly special. Metallic flakes of copper, bronze, and gold are applied in a random pattern meaning every planter carries its own individual character. The finish shifts and glimmers as light changes throughout the day, creating a visual interest that evolves from morning to evening, season to season.
Standard & Custom Thickness: 3mm aluminium is the standard specification, robust and more than sufficient for most applications. For very large planters or commercial settings requiring additional rigidity, 4–5mm is available on request.
Wheels: Optional wheels can be added at the time of order, ideal for larger planters that may need to be repositioned seasonally or for entertaining.
Cleaning & Care: Wipe down periodically with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The powder-coated finish is durable and low maintenance — avoid abrasive cleaners or materials that may scratch or dull the metallic surface.
Bespoke Options: The Gold metallic coating is available across the full range of our aluminium planters, not just the Atlas shape. Additional sizes and colour options are available to order. Lead time for production is up to four weeks. For bespoke enquiries, contact our team on 045 879 170 or at info@caraghnurseries.ie.
Styling Notes: The Gold Atlas makes a bold, unapologetic statement, best suited to spaces that can hold its presence. A single large planter anchors an entrance or terrace beautifully; a pair flanking a doorway creates a sense of arrival that is genuinely memorable. The warm gold tones pair naturally with dark green foliage, deep burgundy Acers, cream or white flowering plants, and the rich tones of natural stone and warm timber. For a more layered look, combine with the IronOre Napoli or the Acer Fibreglass Planter in a complementary colourway.
