Why you’ll love it
There’s something quietly luxurious about Agapanthus ‘Alba’ — tall stems rising up with crisp white flower globes that catch the light in the evening and make everything around them feel calmer. It brings that clean, coastal freshness to a planting scheme, and it’s one of the easiest ways to add height and structure without fuss.
In borders it threads beautifully through grasses and lavender; in pots it becomes a centrepiece that looks “designed” from the moment it opens.
Caragh Garden Notebook (our growing tips)
Agapanthus loves sun and drainage. Plant into a warm spot where the soil doesn’t sit wet in winter — that’s the real secret to success. If your garden is heavier, improve drainage with grit and plant slightly proud of the surrounding soil.
For pots, go big and weighty (it helps prevent tipping as the flower stems rise). Water well in the growing season, then ease off as autumn arrives. A mulch in late autumn is a lovely bit of insurance in colder or exposed gardens.
