Description

804 mix is the go-to sub-base material for any hard landscaping project. It’s a graded crushed stone aggregate — a blend of particle sizes from 0 to 40mm — and that mix of sizes is exactly what makes it work. When compacted, the different grades lock together to create a dense, load-bearing base that won’t shift, sink, or wash away.

It’s the foundation under driveways, patios, paths, and hard standing areas across Ireland. Before any paving, tarmac, or block paving goes down, 804 goes in first. Get the sub-base right and the finished surface will perform properly for years. Skip it, and you’ll be lifting slabs or patching tarmac before long.

Straightforward to work with, widely used, and tried and tested — 804 is one of those products that rarely gets credit but makes everything above it possible.

For driveways and heavy-use areas, lay 804 in compacted layers of 150mm. For patios and lighter-use paths, 100mm compacted is typically sufficient. Always compact thoroughly with a plate compactor before laying your finished surface — a hand-tamped sub-base won’t give you the same result. 804 is designed to be used wet or dry, and it won’t lose its binding properties in Irish weather conditions.
