Description
There’s a particular quality to the west of Ireland landscape that’s hard to put into words — the rough, honest character of dry stone walls running across fields and hillsides, built by hand from what the land gave up. The Kilsaran Connemara Walling system captures something of that spirit and brings it into the garden in a form that’s practical, versatile, and genuinely beautiful.
The rustic, textured finish gives it an aged, natural look that feels at home in both traditional cottage gardens and contemporary outdoor spaces where raw texture is used deliberately as a design element. It doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t — it has the honest, weathered character of natural stone without the cost, weight, or complexity of working with the real thing.
The three-size mix within each pack creates the kind of natural variation in coursing that makes a wall look like it’s been there for years, not weeks. And because no mortar is required after the first row, it’s a project that a confident DIYer can take on themselves — laid level on a solid concrete or mortar base, then simply glued course by course until the wall reaches the height you need.

Caragh Garden Notebook: Building with Connemara Walling
Preparation: A solid, level foundation is everything. Lay the first course into a bed of concrete or mortar and check carefully for level before it sets — everything that follows depends on getting this right. Allow the base to fully cure before continuing.
Building up: Once the first row is set and cured, subsequent courses are glued using a suitable construction adhesive. Work course by course, staggering joints naturally and varying the size mix as you go for the most authentic, natural-looking result.
Finishing: For a clean top edge, consider capping units if available, or select your flattest, most even pieces for the final course. Brush away any adhesive residue before it fully cures.
Maintenance: Connemara Walling is low maintenance. An occasional brush down or rinse with clean water keeps it looking well. Avoid pressure washing at close range, which can dislodge the textured surface over time.
Planting against walls: If using as raised bed walls, ensure any soil or compost is kept back slightly from the outer face of the wall to prevent staining and moisture build-up on the surface.
