Description
This is clematis made easy — and twice as beautiful. In a single 5L pot, you’re getting a paired planting of two Group 3 clematis varieties, ‘Masa’ and ‘Tsukiko’, chosen to flower together and create a richer, more layered display than one plant alone.
As the season gets going, the two varieties weave and climb side by side, giving you a longer, fuller run of flowers through summer. It’s a brilliant way to dress up a trellis, arch, pergola or obelisk quickly — perfect for customers who want impact without having to plan combinations themselves.
Because both are Group 3, the care is wonderfully straightforward: prune hard once a year, then enjoy fresh growth and flowers on new stems all summer long.

Planting:
Plant in spring or autumn. Choose a spot in sun or part shade with a support in place (trellis, wires, obelisk). Dig a generous hole and enrich with compost. Plant the paired clematis 5–8cm deeper than it sits in the pot to encourage strong shoots from the base. Water well and mulch to keep roots cool.

If planting near a wall or fence, leave a small gap for airflow and to make watering easier.
Soil Preparation:
Clematis love fertile, moisture-retentive but free-draining soil. Improve heavy soil with compost and grit; improve light soil with plenty of organic matter. Mulch annually to conserve moisture and protect the root zone.

Watering & Feeding:
Water regularly in the first year and during dry spells — two plants in one root zone means consistent moisture really matters. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser, then again in early summer to support strong flowering. A mulch of compost each year is one of the simplest ways to keep clematis happy.

Pruning (Masa + Tsukiko — Group 3)
Late winter / early spring (Feb–March):
- Cut all stems back to 20–30cm above soil level.
- Make cuts just above a pair of strong buds.
- Remove any dead or weak stems completely.
This hard prune drives lots of fresh new shoots from the base — and that new growth is where these clematis make their flowers.
During the season:
Tie in new growth as it climbs. Deadheading is optional; regular watering and feeding are what keep the show going.

Pests & Problems:
Watch for slugs/snails on young shoots. Planting slightly deeper and keeping soil evenly moist helps reduce the risk of clematis wilt. Good airflow helps keep foliage clean.

Design Notes:
Perfect for a trellis panel, arch, pergola, or a large obelisk in a border. The paired planting gives a fuller, more “designed” look — especially lovely near seating, where you can enjoy the changing mix of flowers up close.
