Altea Pots

Price range: €299.00 through €460.00

Description

It is hard to believe a pot can be this rugged and still look this beautiful. These statement pots are very similar to our Skorpio from the Atlantis range, but in a rich brown colouring with a fabulous textured clay finish that gives the surface real depth and hand-made character. Covered in that distinctive, crusty texture we love from the Atlantis collection, they read entirely as hand-thrown terracotta — until you try to crack one, and discover the secret.

They are actually made of glass reinforced concrete fibre — a material of exceptional toughness that gives the beauty of textured clay with far greater strength and durability than conventional terracotta. Made in Indonesia and built to withstand the realities of an outdoor garden for years, they give you the hand-crafted look with a very modern constitution.

The beauty of Atlantis clay. The strength of reinforced concrete. The best of both, in one pot.

What makes this product special
The combination is what makes these pots so unusual — the textured clay appearance of a hand-made pot combined with the practical toughness of glass reinforced concrete fibre. From a distance and up close, they look as though they have been built by a pot maker’s hand; in the reality of the garden, they can take the knocks, the frost, and the years of outdoor life that fragile terracotta cannot. Being made in Indonesia, they carry the warmth and craftsmanship of a genuine handmade tradition — and at these two sizes, they offer a proper statement scale for large gardens and terraces.

Caragh’s Garden Notebook
Pots that look hand-made but behave like concrete are the practical answer to the classic gardener’s dilemma — you want the beauty and warmth of a textured clay pot, but you don’t want to worry about frost damage or breakage in an exposed position. These pots resolve it completely. The rich brown textured finish suits the warm, earthy palettes of Mediterranean and naturalistic planting — olives, grasses, perennial planting, and clipped evergreen structure all look wonderful in them. As with all Atlantis pieces, choose a single, confident planting rather than several hesitant ones, and let the pot hold its own at its full scale. At the large size in particular, this is not a container that hides in a border — it is a piece that anchors whatever space it occupies.
