Why you’ll love it

Thymus vulgaris is one of those little plants that quietly makes everything better. It forms a neat, fragrant mound of tiny leaves, and in summer it’s sprinkled with delicate flowers that bees absolutely adore.
It’s perfect for sunny pots by the kitchen door, tucked into gravel, or used as a low edging plant where you can brush past and release that warm, herby scent. And of course — it’s a staple in the kitchen, ready whenever you are.

Caragh Garden Notebook (our growing tips)

Thyme loves sun and sharp drainage. Plant it somewhere warm where the soil won’t stay wet in winter — it’s far happier on the dry side than the damp side.
Harvest little and often to encourage fresh growth. After flowering, a light trim keeps plants compact and prevents them getting woody. In containers, use a gritty compost mix and make sure the pot drains freely.
