‘Carré Rouge’ is a compact, evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves, which have a brilliant red colour with every new flush that emerges. The leaves are smaller and more elongated than the usual Red Robin. Panicles of small, creamy-white flowers can often appear in spring if the shrub is not too heavily pruned. However, by pruning regularly you will encourage more young shoots, which in turn will keep the vibrant red tones continuing throughout spring, summer and autumn. It can be easily clipped and maintained into shapes, such as balls and cones, or just left grow into its natural, compact shrub form. It can make a beautifully colourful addition to any border or pot!
