Description

The not-so-commonly-found Malus ‘Opal’ is a hybrid variety derived from a cross between ‘Golden Delicious’ and ‘Topaz’. The medium-sized yellow fruit have are crisp and sweet, with almost tropical hints in its flavour. It flowers at its usual spring time in late April/May, which should attract many bees and other beneficial pollinators. Fruits will develop from late summer onwards.

Apple trees can be pruned preferably in late winter after the tree has lost its leaves and gone into dormancy, but can also be done in the spring if required. Yearly prunes are advised to maintain size, improve shape and to maximise productivity and yield.
