Magnolia x soulangeana Standard Espalier

Description

This is the combination of two of our most popular plants, the Magnolia x soulangeana with its lovely large tulip shaped blooms but these ones have been grown into a standard tree and then espaliered to create stunning contemporary frames of this magnificant plant.

The espaliers are sized at 1.8m clear stem in a 14-16cm girth and then a frame of 100x100cm square head.  In spring, white to rose-pink flowers are produced, just before the large, mid-green leaves emerge. In autumn, the leaves will turn yellow in colour before falling for the winter, creating an extra bit of seasonal interest. Like other Magnolia, these should be planted with Ericaceous soil, and will best suit an area of dappled shade, preferably sheltered from early morning sun.
