Description
The Ilex Maximowicziana Kanehirae is a really great Holly option, it looks beautiful all year round. The plant is also very easy to maintain. It blooms in May and June. Little white, scented flowers that are very attractive to the butterflies and bees. Black berries then appear in autumn and the birds will appreciate these. Unlike lots of hollies it doesn’t have such a sharply serrated leaf so isn’t as prickly, slightly more like a privet and it takes pruning better too.
The name is a bit of a mouthful and hard to pronounce, they originate in Korea although I’m not sure where the name comes from but rest assured this plant grows well here
