Hydrangea macrophylla “Merveille Sanguine” which is, even as a Hydrangea lover, one of the most beautiful I have come across. The flowers are a unique shade of cassis centred on a centre of violet blue. The leaves have a deep merlot red cast which intensifies in late summer and provide the perfect background for the gorgeous flower heads. The name roughly translates as ‘Bloody Marvellous’ which indeed it is. This beauty does take a while to get established but when it does its worth the wait.
1.3m high and spread with flowering from July – September, preferably in good sun.
