Description

This Californian Lilac is one of the hardiest varieties of Ceanothus. A dense, bushy evergreen shrub with small, glossy green leaves. From around late May through to July/August, it produces an abundance of compact panicles of deep blue flowers that will attract bees and other beneficial pollinators in their droves. It can be left to grow into a large shrub, up to about 3m in height, or can also been seen grown as a wall climber.

It is slow-growing in its early years, but once established it can be quite vigorous. If pruning is required, it is best done just after flowering. It is better to give it a light prune each year if necessary to maintain it at a desired size, as it sometimes does not respond well to being pruned back hard.
