Description
Veitch’s fir is an evergreen conifer with a narrow pyramidal habit with horizontal branching, that can grow to mature heights of 25 – 30 m. The bark is smooth, light grey in colour and the young shoots are brownish green with short brown hairs. The needles are glossy dark green on top with two conspicuous bluish white stomatal bands underneath.In autumn, upright cylindrical cones are produced that are purple-brown in colour.
These specimens have been grown and maintained in an Umbrella shape, with a 1.5m clear trunk of 30-40cm+ girth, with an overall height of 2.5-3m with a similar spread.
