Description
Mespilus Westerveld or Medlar, once a commonly seen fruit tree is somewhat of a rare find. The ‘Westerveld’ originally cultivated in the Netherlands is an extremely reliable self fertile cropper whose fruits are perfect for either eating or making Meldar jelly. Blooms with white flowers in late May with fruit crops in October and into November. Best harvested after the first frost.
A hardy tree it adapts well to most soil types but prefers a moist well drained soil in a sunny location.
