Japanese tree peony ‘Shima Nishiki’ has large scarlet red semi-double flowers with white flashes on the outer petals. Very attractive with mid-green foliage. Any fertile, free-draining soil in full sun or part shade in any sheltered position. It is early to mid season flowering.
Tree peonies differ from garden peonies in that they have woody stems like a shrub. The branches do not die back to the ground in winter as do the herbaceous varieties. Exotic, uniquely coloured, and often fragrant blooms are produced in late spring, about two or three weeks before the shrub varieties. This one comes in a good sized 7L pot.
