With aromatic glossy dark green leaves make it a beautiful plant for hedging, topiary or as a specimen. It is one of the oldest shrubs in cultivation, originates from the Mediterranean, is also known as Sweet Bay and of course it is the source of the bay leaves used fresh or dried in cooking. It is slow growing and only needs a light trim in summer to keep it in shape.
