Multi-stemmed trees

Today is about adding all of my multi-stemmed trees that have been recently lifted from the fields and potted up onto the website but before I do I thought I’d share with you what they are and the best ways to use them in your planting schemes. The Multi stemmed trees form part of our Specimen Collection on the nursery.

Multi-stemmed trees are very popular for lots of reasons but one is the use of them in show gardens over the last few years, this has really driven up the demand for these beauties and so we have been growing more varieties to meet this demand.  At one time the option were limited to White (also known as the Himalayan Birch or Jaquimontii Birch) and Silver Birch and some of the real beauties like the Prunus Serrula, which is just amazing with it’s peeling bark. Now we have a much wider choice from Magnolias to Limes and lots in between.

I love using multi-stemmed trees in my garden design. One single multi-stem creates an architectural showpiece in a small space, showing off the stems to its utmost. In a medium or larger garden the repetition of the multistemmed trees either within a underplanted bed or very simply set exclusively to really create a structural statement. . Growing a tree as a multistem slows its growth and the overall size is rarely as large as a standard tree which I like, if a multi-stemmed tree gets too big it can ruin the natural appeal, in my opinion of these beautiful specimen trees.
